Sand Point School Leader Update

Dear Sand Point Elementary Families and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that based on the recommendation of the Sand Point Elementary hiring team, Katie Pearl has been selected as the next principal of Sand Point Elementary.

Ms. Pearl has served in Seattle Public Schools since 2007 as a teacher, special educator, house administrator, assistant principal, and principal. Prior to Seattle Public Schools, she was a teacher in Seattle as well as in New York City. She holds her bachelor’s degree from Occidental College, master’s from Mercy College, and her principal credential from the University of Washington. She is currently studying for her Doctorate of Education with the University of Washington’s Leadership for Learning (L4L) program.

Ms. Pearl has created systems for learning and achievement as the assistant principal at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School (2017-present) and served as an incredible equity-focused instructional leader as the principal at both Northgate Elementary from 2014 to 2017 and B.F. Day Elementary from 2012 to 2014.

She has demonstrated a strong commitment throughout her career to anti-racist leadership and inclusionary practices while elevating the voices of students, families, and the community. She gains trust with a strong presence in classrooms and in the community and looks forward to collaborating in service of student learning at Sand Point. Her vast and diverse leadership experience aligns with Sand Point’s commitment to equity, the need for systems of support and improvement, and a focus on high-quality whole-child instruction. Ms. Pearl will begin as principal starting Friday, July 1, 2022.

I also want to thank Principal Ric Baileykaze for his leadership and service in Seattle Public Schools, including the last two years as principal of Sand Point Elementary. We wish him great success as he and his family begin their new chapter teaching internationally together.

Please join me in welcoming Principal Pearl to the Sand Point community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Jones
Superintendent
