Sand Point students have been reeling in the arts!

This teacher-created after-school program teaches 2nd-5th graders how to play and perform instruments in a rock band. Groups of students formed and named their own bands, practiced after school each week, and then performed for our school community at a school assembly.

Thanks to Bryan Manzo, Scott Jenkins, and Jack Knight for organizing, recruiting, and teaching Sand Point students how to rock out! Also, in connection with Stone Soup Theatre, Sand Point students are able to participate in drama during early release Wednesdays.

This December, students performed Robin Hood the Musical. It was a hit, as students acted and sang for our community. Thanks to Stone Soup Theatre and Maizun Blackbird for bringing drama to Sand Point! To further incorporate the arts into our school, we have weekly ukulele lessons taught by our staff for all 4th and 5th graders and art lessons taught by local art docents for K-5th graders. We also have weekly music lessons taught by our music teacher, Mrs. Jackson.

Our students have been motivated to use their creativity in our school, as a few students have written our first school song! We are so proud of all the arts incorporated into our small northeast school. Go Squirrels!
