Sand Point Elementary School
Our Vision
At Sand Point Elementary, we are a community of lifelong learners, responsible global citizens, and champions of our own success.
Our School
Sand Point Elementary provides differentiated learning experiences to challenge students across a range of academic skills, including ACORN blocks for reading, Project Math, walk-around math instruction (including a 6th grade math class) and project-based learning units.
Our arts education program includes hip hop and ballroom dancing, integrated visual arts, drama, instrumental music, ukulele, drumming, and more. This school year we will be staging an all-school play. We have also developed a K-5th grade social emotional literacy curriculum using RULER anchor tools to teach self- and social-awareness.
Teachers and staff at SPE are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment, which instills creativity in the learning process. With the tools that Sand Point offers, students leave the school with a sense of personal accomplishment and the full range of skills necessary to be successful in middle school and beyond.
Our Community
For the 2017-2018 school year, Sand Point Elementary is proud to have 206 students enrolled in 9 K-5 classrooms. Our demographics represent a microcosm of the city where we live including 17% African American, 37% Caucasian, 18% Asian, 13% Hispanic, and 15% Multiracial students. Our students speak 22 different home languages.
We have a very dedicated PTA and community volunteers who work in partnership with the school and staff. Our common goal is to support the entire school community and each and every student at Sand Point.
The PTA provides tremendous support to the school through volunteer hours and fundraising. Without PTA funding, we would not be able to provide many of the opportunities and experiences such as art, music, field trips, PE support, library support, garden, school supplies, school events, and more.
